The lamppost standing
on the corner

Flickers through
its final thoughts

It is laughing
at the moonlight

Leaving prospect
in its plight

A moth was locked
within its orbit

Bumping often
on its face

Now it flutters
toward
a lighthouse

Making corkscrews
out of fog

The ghastly howl
whirls
past my neck

Some ball of wind
late,
for a storm

The glowing eyesight
of
a kitten

Tossed like garbage
from a car

Starts to melt
into the pavement

Sanding gutters
with its tongue

Shadows
coddling,
with their voices

Empty bottles
hit the ground

Lots of
grownups
playing adultery

A man is slapping
someone’s
mom

Something’s lurking
in the alley

It doesn’t even
have a
name

Bratty skids
from all the murderers

Lined up neatly
in a row

And the guy with his
home

Made of metal
and wheels

Goes quietly
down
the road

Looking for pieces
of rubbish and
hope

That progress has
left behind

The man who is
dead
on the haystack
of needles

Was easy enough
to find

A flame is trying
to claw
at the night

As it burns
in a hollowed out
drum

Warming the hands
of fingerless gloves

A window,
lowers
its shades for the
night

And the stench
and the rot

Fight on
for the lot

Of spoilage and rusty
belief

A plot full of weeds
with nothing,
but needs

On this mountain of
broken bit
dreams

The one way street
that ends,
in dead

On the corner of
Promise
and Land

The single flower
crawls through
the crack

As a bird sings soft
to the sun

Richy, this is very beautifully and compassionately and realistically portrayed – the kitten had me in tears, though I know this is fiction, but for many kittens and other animals without a loving, caring home, it is true, and my tears were for them as well.  For me, the last 2 stanzas most certainly did their job, as I am sure they did for all your readers.

the solitary flower
the lone bird
both soothe and disturb
in the dark, yet enchanting

thank you Diana, i'm always glad to read your perspective on things.. yes, there are so many things to write about to give them their voice.. animal cruelty yes, that hits me at the very core as well..

thanks for being one of the animal kingdom's angels

very interesting Emma about those two lines, soothing, and, disturbing..

maybe someday you'll share your insight with me on what that meant to you..
