It was cool today
and the wind has died
the ocean waves
continue their ebb and flow
my thoughts left on the crest
to crash and burn.

Parting clouds give way
to the morning sun high in the sky
and perfect strangers
gather sea shells
and polished rocks
hanging onto momentos
that might mean something.

The summer phase
mingles with winters day
and the clarity of poetry
is left in a haze
rocked by an endless lull
that circles around the seasons.

Like the run off
provides a shallow sanctuary
for the birds
ironically
setting themselves free
to fly away
to have turned the page.

Everything has changed
and nothing remains the same
people wade in and out
compassion is an after thought
not too give away too much
left on the beach with other dreams.

The color of daze
stained pale blue
left behind
beneath a torn umbrella
the canvas tattered and frayed
faded from exposure.

oh how I wish I could trade these places with you...we got 15 inches of snow and it sure made me miss the beach so badly, I wanted to cry.

You always take me back to where i grew up and I thank you.

Beautifully descriptive as usual! "Compassion is an afterthought" - so true no matter where one is.  I'm thinking that when I grow up I'd like to write like you do but as time grows shorter and shorter that's probably not going to happen - next lifetime perhaps.

Descriptively beautiful....i was so there i almost rolled up the legs of my jeans to walk bearfoot on the sands.

Thanks for the seaside sweetness

Oh Lori this one just hit me right in the gut.. ive had soo many of those kinds of days this past 12 months, its been the saddest year of my life.. its just such a helpless feeling when you know you cant do anything to help out a dear friend. This season in particular always gets me kind of gloomyish and lethargic anyway compared to warmer parts coming soon.. i hope the sky clears now and then enough for some light and warmth to shine through.. i always pictured you living close to the shore, that is one of my goals.. there is just something so soothing, even when its foggy, about even just sitting in the sand and looking out at the horizon all by myself.. but then usually a few gulls come by to quietly share the view with me.. i hope this piece doesn't reflect a sadness that lingers on too long.. the sun was made to show us what splendor and radiance is all about.. and so were you..  (((You)))

So true...You are so lucky to be living near the beach. I enjoyed your beautiful words Lori as always.

I am one of those strangers that collect a shell or a pebble, only to be tossed among the others in a giant glass jar that sits o
a windowsill, miles away from the beloved shore that must wait for me till the summer sings again.
You make me long for my Jersey shore, that is suffering right now, its bits and pieces
no more in their rightful place, than my own silly little seashells in a glass jar.

Wow!!
"Cool Blue", perfection.  Loved the poetry,
but that last stanza... Whoa!
More depth than meets the thought pallet...
So expressive, so darn good!!
Great work, Blues!!

You write the seashore so well,Blues. It becomes as much a part of your reader as it is a part of you and like the ocean your thoughts have such great depth. love it.

I really love the sound of crashing waves.  Makes me feel safe... which may be counter-intuitive.
