Thorn

I've taken time to dance with Misery,
I've taken time to walk with Sorrow.
I've clutched this thorn for all to see,
I will, ever unto the morrow.
With an aura of dark shadow –
With a nimbus emptied of soul,
There is a path I must follow,
Though I may never face it whole.

Where, once, the river guided me,
It's only now Silence which bends
The voices through this ebony
Forest emptiness simply rends
Upon the unsuspecting eye,
Incarcerating true belief
In hope, in love – those things that I
Have witnessed only bring you grief.

I stare up at the blackened sky,
Can trace where the stars used to shine.
Too exasperated to sigh –
The curse of thinking a thing mine...
Or that something could lift me from
This byway of obscurity,
Not falling to belief I'm some
Damned result of depravity.

...And still these voices call to me,
I close my eyes, and hear them true.
They know my name, they sing to me
All I could never be to you.
They call me out, but still I wait,
Today marking another year.
A prisoner to self chosen fate,
What can I say?  I like it here.

Death's but a path that must be trod,
If man would ever pass to God.

That last line sums it up, doesn't it,
"I like it here"! I guess we like to be where we
are most comfortable. Well done, Michael!
With understanding,

If you like where you are that is all that matters.
Or perhaps it's just easier that way, instead of fighting it.
There's a lot to be said for coming to terms, for all of us.

You write a good poem~

Nicely done Michael. I like it here too and the older you get the more comfortable you become with yourself.

"All I could never be to you."

"What can I say?  I like it here."

Nice writing, my friend.

Grief sometimes can lead you into the most sublime and stalwart feelings, Michael. For, to pen the poetry, and the focal point of the verses, you have come to a place in the road where you are happy with your misery and would not have it any other way you must be strong or you would surely break. And beware the fool who tries to divert you from your selected and chosen path. I speak from experience.
