The Season

‘Tis the season, and the reason
I know well, within my head…
But feel sadness ‘midst the madness,
Mingling with a tingling of dread.
To see such love, the pleasure of’
Which I know I could never partake –
The price I pay, being born this way,
To a world I will ever forsake.

As years, bereft of smiles, have swept
The will to live from ‘neath these eyes;
I watch them sing carols that ring
Of joy, of mirth, but ne’er surprise.
No warmth, no tear for another year
Standing here with no offering…
Wishing I could just disappear,
For what greater gift could I bring?

…To no more stain, with woe and pain,
These faces that know how to smile.
…To no more line grief by design
‘Pon walls I’ve tainted with denial.
…Let Silence stand, with no demand
Of emotion I could never share.
…Let fall away this damned display
Of incomprehensible despair.

I only wish your forgiveness,
For the selfishness that’s driven me.
And though I pray, I won’t know a day
My eyes see what it is you see.
So continue on, do not be drawn
To sadness, but just hear me this…
Could you please tell me why my misery
Only feels amiss when it’s Christmas?

I like the form Michael. You always put alot of work and effort into your poems, and I especially like these lines.

And though I pray, I won’t know a day
My eyes see what it is you see. Enjoyed.

You put so much heart and soul into your work, but your words are so sad and lonely to me. This is a heart tugging poem, however I am glad you have poetry as an outlet to express your sorrowful thoughts.

Be well dear poet~
