Amber-cream clouds meandered
above stygian trees, coot
call betrayed water, echoing
around the leafless trees.
Through a tangle of
blackened briars, dark gloaming
water rippled before me.
Appearing from mist, a
boat plashed gently,shadow
dark, a figure hunched,
dug at the water
with a long paddle.
Garbed in clothes ragged,
black as ravens wings,
he peered out from
under a large brimmed
charcoal hat, drawing closer.
Standing there on the
blustery shoreline, i shivered
but immediately became calm,
something told me this
was the riverman, coming
at last to take
me away,where i
did not now care.
The sky rolled ghostly
low above,suddenly floating
on the mirrored water,
the thud of wood
on wood, the paddle
beating out the time,
my heart rose and
fell with its rythym,
lifting his head, dark
eyes flashed amber cloud
reflection as he glided
into the shingle shoreline.

music was my refuge.i could crawl into the spaces between the notes and curl my back to loneliness - Maya Angelou
