Listening to every heart

And The Gift

She closed the book, tears welling in her eyes.
The story, more real, every year.

Della had known the meaning; Jim had, too.

Only, not in time.  But love
had been there, precious items
they held dear to themselves, now gone;
for although cherished so, each
knew when to give them up.

She had been there, once.  Knowing
those precious, intangible feelings,
that sort of love, the kind
one would give anything to share.

Then, in a long-ago moment, she had known
reality’s crash.

She fell, unwilling, and had been forced to know
the Darkest of darkness; she was beleaguered by
the Coldest of coldness; and Bleak, oh yes,
it knew her name.

Hope lifted her, even though it had once
stole from her.

For she had only wished to carry
the Magi’s message within her,
to allocate, as she might,
not only on one night,
but throughout the year…

so much so, that sharing
could have been her middle name.

She was that kind of person.  Even though
she feared and quivered at the gray matter
she walked through, the homeless, insecure, the
bewildered and those delusional; as she passed loathsome,
greed and avarice; thieves and more,

it was her wish to reach out, and allow them
sunlight in their gray…
for she saw them every day.  And every day, it was all
she could do, to keep Christmas in her heart,
and pass on the love of Him, even in only
in prayer.

She practiced, every day.

Soon enough, after long enough, even for her,
some rays came through.

She closed the Book, tears welling
in her eyes.

~*~

Tonight, I wish you all a sincere, wonderful
holiday season; and I also wish for all of
you, a coming together, no matter what we
think might divide us, ever.

For this is our home, and our haven.

Merry Christmas.

Karilea

Wonderful write.  May you have a great festive season and, yes, let's give thanks for this haven of blue that never fails to inspire and motivate.
