The Unexpected

I sit here waiting for the normal,
Never knowing what normal will be.
Years have passed, disappointments rendered
Thinking time would be mine, finally.

So I wait, am left to wonder
Mindful of the past, its hold.
Taking in the moments, remembering
All the good times as they unfold

From photographs and yearbook savings
From friends I've known both near and far.
It's times like this when I hold dearly
Even that which left a scar.

For who am I, but what has made me
All that was and is and will be.
With a grain of salt, I taste it now.
It brings a tear, or two, or three.

For now I wait... my future's see.

Well, I figure my days/years are numbered and yes I have some wonderful memories, as well as some disappointments and they're all lumped in to my life and times.  But I only look back on the happy times because that's all that matters.  Keep the right thoughts Maureen, life is short.  xo Hugs hon~

No one's "days are numbered". Numbers and days go on indefinately. Look ahead with joy and be open to all with open arms.

I wish my birthdays would come around as slowly as the answers.
Well done,

Thanks everyone. Actually I am awaiting some biopsy results for a health problem I have incurred and won't know a thing until Thursday...so I am sort of housebound or not going very far and spent some time reminiscing poems, and  yearbooks as I organize and go through  30 plus years of "stuff" in this house( some of which I need to dispose of.)

nakdthoughts - The unexpected often makes us reach deep inside and pull out strengths we only thought existed in someone else. Somewhere in there lies our human nobility and perhaps a poet to write about it. Enjoyed your thoughtful work Maureen. Namyh

Loved the message here.  We have arrived at this point, the sum of all our pains and joys -- sorrows and splendors, to now await our future.  What awaits us we do not know, but I know we could not appreciate it for what it is without all our previous experiences.  Great writing.

just a quick response:

I have ulcerative colitis and will have to deal with it for the rest of my life and try to get and keep it under control.

Thank you for your kind thoughts

( p.s. if anyone knows how to get medicine at a reduced price...those best medicines offered to me were $400  or $1200 a month ) so I opted for now for an older medicine supposedly having more side effects than the newer non generic ones.)
