Spoken For

You ask, "Could we go out some time?"
I stare into your eyes,
And in my head a soulless rhyme
Begins to improvise...
Justifying the said event,
Perhaps taking place somewhere
Where Darkness would soon implement
Itself on the unaware.

Such need I have felt span the years,
Walking the world alone.
Penance only attained through tears,
Reaching this pauper's throne.
Beyond that one face carved in stone
In the mural of my life...
By Lachesis' gauge, by Hymen's groan,
My one true loving wife

Amidst seven thousand would be loves
Who only loved what I could be,
Shaped by their delicate white gloves,
As they operated on me.
While, in the bleeding, ardor waned
Throughout the channels dissident,
Till every dying echo profaned
Any care of just where it went.

Now stand I with prophetic views,
The aftermath of what once was –
Of all in life I could not refuse
Still in my head, simply because
I never learned to live as cued,
In fact, have but simply rebelled...
If for love lost, if for life rued,
If utterly compelled.

Perhaps I've come to understand
The meaning of such lessons...
Perhaps I'm tired of reprimand,
Pleading sin in confessions.
The measure, mine to undertake,
My chapter in the Art of War...
I speak my words from Passion's wake,
"I'm sorry, I am spoken for."

Another brick in my wall placed,
One less bridge I will have to burn.
I'll add your eyes to those I've faced –
With precision, chosen to spurn.
Hereafter set right here and now,
I'll walk in shadow, disregarded;
Await errant chance to allow
Me a place among the discarded.

Death's but a path that must be trod,
If man would ever pass to God.

Discarded, yes thats the way it feels sometimes and "Im spoken for" I havent heard that phrase in a while. I remember the poem I wrote about the man on the plane asking me if I was married. I said "yes" but I never thought of saying "Im spoken for".
Nicely done Michael.

Amidst seven thousand would be loves
Who only loved what I could be,

The title reminds me of times gone by... these lines make me think of what happens all too often... and everywhere my mind wanders, I enjoy the read. *S*
