Not ever, ere, has heartache been
a deep and fiery devil “thing”
that leaves the soft and gentle
prone on the floor of death.

But the soft and gentle rise again
to view the floor with different eyes
and run, oh, yes, as best they can
from the dastardly.

It’s in that run that happenstance
leads them on and into
a wild and ferocious jungle
that harbours memories.

No run can ever beat the times
when heartache tripped the fleet of foot
who by the grace of mind states
had missed the hazardous.

Though risen from the floor of death
and adept at fighting jungles
now searches all the gentle, soft,
for joy that one day disappeared.

Now joy’s akin to devil “things”
that plays all day catch if can
and taunts and goads the innocent
into a game that never ends.

There they go, here they come,
searching for what can’t be found
because heartache burns the best of life
and throws ash into the winds of time!

There is much depth within the lines of this one, Helen. Humans continue to strive for that perfect love and if there is such a thing it is well hidden. Still, we look and make the same mistakes again as we do. I liked this one very much.

Enjoyed Honeybunch. It seems like fate always has the last word and its usually what we dont like to hear.

A poem is never finished, only abandoned.

Thanks Jerry and Victoria.  Yes, fate, if there such a thing be, is a dastardly thing.

Wow...love this poem, the entire poem, but
this especially.

Thanks Ms. E.  I had a sense of tripping and falling just before going to sleep last night.  It must have stayed with me hence the poem because I wasn't consciously thinking about heartache - must have then been in my dreams which, of course, I don't remember.  Glad you enjoyed though.

Now this is a powerful piece, and one I relate to only too well.
quote:

into a game that never ends.

Hit the nail on the head with that stanza.  Much enjoyed, if in my own dark and gloomy way.

Thanks, Michael.  I reckon the dark and gloomy is he soul (and my "because" is probably a weird theory)and we, the supposed living, are the ones who smile because really, really, who cannot smile through the pain of whatever type.  How false we are when it comes down to basics.

"There they go, here they come,

Ouch, a "Heartache" for sure.
Love your depth of understanding of the fracturing of love between us humans; if it wasn't such a sad situation it would almost seem stupid.  We were created in love, for love, and we treat our loved ones pretty rough at times, and then forget we love them
for who they are and not just for them loving us.

As always, enjoyed your write!!

Hi JL!  Thanks.  I reckon the majority of us are pretty stupid because we are, after all, born with only half of a brain.     Then when we come to a better understanding it is perhaps too late.  Oh, well, it's life and we must live it as best we can before, during and after the heartache.
