Stardust

Got a pocket full of stardust, got a bottle full of air.
I would have saved myself a drink, but lost the hope somewhere.
Down to my last inkling of trust, I laid it on the track.
I never took the time to think, now I can't have it back.

Keep my sunshine in a locket, while it dangles from a chain.
While I face the world a mannequin, behind a tinted pane.
My name's not on the docket, still I swear I'll make it through,
See, I've learned hard my price for sin does not apply to you.

And so I squeeze the trigger of a gun holding but blanks...
I'll never get forgiveness, but I'd settle for some thanks.
You, the shovel; me, the digger, leave a ragged trench behind
In a garden of shared loneliness, with no exits to find.

A madman's maze, a candle lit, what hope is left for me?
A right wall trick?  A dead man's lie?  A date with Destiny?
If I could only handle it, I'd absolve myself with truth...
But, oh my soul, truth's but a lie that died within my youth.

And so I scorch my eyes again, staring once more at sun,
Ritual of man who can't forget the awful things he's done.
Still, if I lose my sight in vain attempts to reconcile...
The stardust in my pocket will still paint, for you, a smile.

Sounds like you are slowly, but surely creeping toward a better place. I saw glimmers of better days ahead . . .
