the rain is a (((((wet hug)))))
I prefer the clouds embrace
and the obscurity within its shadows
for it fits my own ominous mood
for even within the gloom
there are subtle flickerings of light
making my illegitimate enjoyment endearing

even as the rain, more moist than drops
dampens my face, hands and attitude
a taunting, teasing sort of fog
so invasive and oppressive
I began to hallucinate
the visions, as is my frame of mind
muddled, now quite upsetting

standing in the dark of my failures
I anticipate the need to feel something
real, for
the rain within is
no longer a )))))wet hug(((((
try as I may, my nightmares stand strong
the ache is too dark

I challenge myself to just feel, not ponder

Feeling, good or bad, is what it's all about, my friend.
Without it we're a disaster waiting to happen.

Good piece,

Yep, you got that right, J., sometimes we forget it, but if we're the original dead man/woman walking. Thanks for the comment.

Perhaps feelings are like messages and we need to acknowledge them before moving on into a hopefully better frame of mind.

Whatever they are, Helen, they are us in the moment. Feelings, even bad or scary ones, tell us we are alive and breathing. People with no feelings are the original dead man/woman walking. Thank you Helen, for being here.

Yeah, I guess most people like the rain, Victoria, it is a soothing massage of the soul in my opinion. Thank you for being here with me in this rainy poem.

I too like fog and clouds and the natural places they give you to hide.  I love the rain too for the exact opposite reason... it leaves you nowhere to hide that's natural.  It's almost like it has a purpose, seeking, finding, and cleansing.  I have to play a little in the rain every time it does rain... guess I'm just weird like that.

Playing in the rain isn't weird, it's natural, Michael. Appreciate that you took the time to stop and read and comment. Thanks.

this puts me in mind of when I hear an old song that once was a favorite that comforted me through a hard time and now the song is so tainted that I can hardly stand to listen to it.  As always your pics are perfect!

"I challenge myself to just feel, not ponder"

When someone asks me how I feel...
I just say: "With my hands."

But I do understand, sometimes it's good to zone out and cut the circuits to the ponder box.

Enjoyed the read Mr., per usual...

You're absolutely correct, JL, short-circuit the ponder box and try to relax and give the old gray matter some breathing room. Thanks for being here . . .

Rainy day stories.
I also love the rain even with this memory of hurt put there by a mean old neighbor.

One hot summer day a neighbor was watering the front yard. Little Jo was standing by just watching. He said, “Put your bathing suit one and I will give you a shower”.

Home she ran, as she loved to dance in the rain, she put on the little black wool bathing suit. A little hole on the lower right side. But that did not bother her. It was put there by a moth I’m sure.

Happily she skipped out to greet the rain that fell from the end of the hose and he laughed and put the hose away.

What a grump, latearrival. That is just downright mean. Thanks for showing up here, even if you had something evil to say.

This line:
"I anticipate the need to feel something
real,"
struck me strongly.  I never expected it, and it blindsided me---well done!

Thank you very much, Nan. I have a cousin by the name of Nan. I like it when I get blindsided (in a good way) don't you?

Enjoyed your poem, JP.

I embrace my darkness
when it begins to rain
I am cleansed by it's lightness.

Yes, ken, let it rain indeed. Thank you very much for continuing to support my poetry. Maybe one day I'll be able to rejoin the Blue Room.
