As grieving mothers wept,
the unbroken promises
had been kept.
Their sons and daughters
were coming home.

Tho, they do not suffer
in their sleep,
when placed,
in an earthen bed,

while overhead,
the cold wind blows,
on ground,
where they had bled.

Nature's cover
of earth and stone,
no more,
will keep the bodies warm.

Nor, will the memory,
of that war,
once fought on barren fields,
where the hopes, of Afghan poppies,
will no longer grow.

Achingly, sensitively sad, RV, but very beautiful.  It is excruciatingly painful for a mother to lose a child, whether by death or any other means.

while overhead,
the cold wind blows,
on ground,
where they had bled.

and

Nor, will the memory,
of that war,
once fought on barren fields,
where the hopes, of Afghan poppies,
will no longer grow.

are the most poignant stanzas for me.

Makes you wonder sometimes, why keeping promises is a good thing.  Well done, it made me sad, and made me think.
