PASSING OF AN ACACIA
21 October 2012

Tree of my heart
though one of many
of my child-trees,
my words are frozen,
my heart is raw,
my tears burn,
and I am with you.
I will talk more
to you when
my breath
returns.

Owl, sense much compassion in your poems and comments...you have feeling and a good heart...loved the poem and the warmth it conveyed to me. Also, enjoyed your comment to the poem, "Riding Stick Horses". Another poem you may find interesting is..."A Daisy Tale From An Ole Dog"... found in Corner Pub #3. My favorite tree is the Golden Raintree. But... since reading your poem, on the "Passing of an Acacia", I have developed an interest in the species. Hmmm, if only I had some seeds.

Thank you RV for your kind words.  My garden (except for the back garden) is (literally) an indigenous forest (a small one), originally planted by my son and a then boyfriend of mine in the 1980’s, but now it propagates itself and looks after itself mostly.  I am a total purist when it comes to indigenous plants.  We here in South Africa – and I would think many countries – have a rampant problem with invasive aliens that don’t have natural enemies to keep the numbers down.  I wouldn’t advise you to plant acacias unless they are indigenous to the USA.  I tried to find some in the USA for you on the Internet, but firstly I don’t know which part you are in – and I am also just assuming that you are in the USA – and I couldn’t find any there, which doesn’t mean there aren’t any – only a couple in Central America, which you can see on the website: http://waynesword.palomar.edu/acacia.htm  but you can try to find some in the USA – I don’t know for sure, though – you would have to look them up – I suggest the website: http://esp.cr.usgs.gov/data/atlas/little/  - that is, if you are in the USA.

I usually make a point of sticking to the main forum, because of time constraints, but I would like to see those 2 poems especially the one about the dog (I realllllllllly hope it is a happy one – I am a tough cookie, but I am mush when it comes to animals and Michelmas’ poem reduced me to floodwaters) and will make some time soon to look them up.

Thanks, Bruce.  Glad you enjoyed it.

Oops!  RV, I misread your response and thought the Golden Raintree was a poem!  Blush, blush.  Only realised what you really said now when I came in to check where the doggy poem is.  So please read "that poem" instead of "both those poems" in my above message.  I don't know the Golden Raintree at all, but it sounds beautiful.

Seems you made it to the Daisy Tale poem. Thanks Owl, for the comment and idea...The Golden Raintree might make for an interesting poem.

Yep, I did, and tiptoed into it, in fear and trembling that it was a sad one, but to my delight, I found it wasn't.  I left a comment to your reply to mine as you will see.

I found the Golden Raintree on the Internet on various websites – this is just one of them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koelreuteria_paniculata - it is certainly very beautiful and I am sure it would make an interesting topic for a poem.  I am looking forward to reading yours when it is written.
