I remember childhood days,
of long ago,
riding stick horses
on sidewalks, through alleys
and across asphalt roads.

Our weapons
were cap guns
and wooden swords.
Our shields
were painted trash can lids.

We, were those children,
of long ago,
living simple lifes...
riding stick horses
into the nite.

Some rode far far away.
yet,
still,
while others rode,
others stayed!

This is my remembrance,
of that time,
long ago,
and the passing
of childhood days.

Now,
I wonder!
Where
have those children
gone?

They are sitting, or laying, on the sofa watching television or doodling with a game on his hand-held computer. They're conquering vast universes without breaking a sweat, and will grow up to be a three hundred pound fifteen-year-old. All we could do was apprehend Black Bart with out stick horses. But I bet we had more fun and was in better shape.

I agree Jerry...will it change or is it the way of the future?

Drones controlling drones...moving money, fighting wars and leveling mountains...all being performed by high tech supermen in swivel chairs...with a "mighty mouse" at their finger tips.

I love this RV.  Besides being a very beautiful poem, I relate so very well to it.  My friend from 2 doors up the road, and I, used to ride the 2 halves of her wooden gate.  There was a big metal latch on one side and because I went to a horse-riding school, I chose to ride without a bridle and let her have reins to guide her wooden horse.  I read a children's book, Wish for a Pony 8 times, but only got my first and only horse, Flicka, (I am a one-horse woman) at the age of 36 and shared him with my two children until they grew up.  I was Flicka's for 20½ (human) years and knew him for 2 years before that because he was at the riding school my children and I went to and we all rode him there.  He was 37½ when he went to Heaven on 28 April 2002.  He and my dog, Daisy, who went to Heaven on 18 December 2009 at the age of 14½, and my cat, Tigger, who went to Heaven on 26 October 2010 at the age of 15½, send me sky and cloud messages every day and I talk to them often throughout every day and they sent me my new babies, Benji, my dog, and Cleo, my cat on 31 December 2010.  If you think I am crazy, let me tell you that I would be dangerous-and-curly-jacket-crazy if they weren't all in my life.
