October Rain

Twilight, each bird, their goodnight song to sing
Autumn’s last golden fingers in the west
And in the purple sky, mute swan on wing
Smell of bees wax polish and Sunday best
The table grain, nurtured with love and care
A cup put down to stain, don’t you dare
Teak that shone, reflecting times long gone by
My image there, I look, can only sigh
Now light through stained glass, shines upon the grain
Brass plaque and handles blemish in the rain
And falling leaves to carpet the Church path
Distant now the memory of your laugh
And then we throw the dirt upon the grain
Turn away to walk, in October rain

Hmmm, Matter...it never dies...it only changes forms...it is the aspirations that are laid to rest. Super poem!

gripping
I had to read it more than once, because I couldn't let it go.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
