Hello all, I'm new here. I used to visit back during my freshmen and sophomore years of high school.  I find myself here again as a Junior in college.

Anyway, I'd like your opinion on the first poem I've written since early high school.  An good friend that I graduated with died unexpectedly yesterday.  I'm at college in Colorado, but I fly home to North Carolina a few times a year and while we rarely talked during the interim, she was one of a handful of people I saw just about every time I flew home.  I wrote this in honor of her and the lesson I've learned from her. Unfortunately, as most of my small community attends the home football game tonight and wears a white ribbon in her honor, I am unable to have leave authorized so I can make it back.  I'm wearing my white ribbon in her honor regardless.
One of the greatest regrets to be found in life
has little to do with hardship or strife.
But instead lies in the forgotten care
of a friendship where love and laughter were rife

Time can't be helped as it goes on its way.
So many words left still to stay
to an Old Friend whose ears are now deaf.
Instead those words now plead that they may

tell Janie Queen how much she meant
regardless of how time the friendship bent.
She is remembered always by those that care
and now at her passing in hearts that are rent

So let not time do its misdeed.
Call up an old friend and say what you need.
Her life touched many as all can see.
I beg you now, her lesson take heed.

Though it is late my advice I do take.
Janie Queen, I wish I could make
you laugh one more time as loud as you do,
And maybe then my heart would cease its ache.

Ours prayers you hear while bathed in light.
This outpouring of love is quite a sight.
You're in Heaven now, but your memory we hold dear
As tonight we honor you with a ribbon of white.

Very nicely and warmly written, my friend.  I can see/feel your heart here. (seems I do remember seeing "LucidDreams" in these pages ... welcome, again.)

This is heartbreaking and beautiful. I'm a junior in college as well, and luckily I haven't had to lose anyone in this mature state (only while I was very young- I believe now would be more difficult.) Therefore, I cannot empathize, but I will send you my sympathy and condolences.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful writing- Glad to see you back on Pip!
