I've searched for your eyes
flying over the sky
thinking of you with my head in the clouds.
The landscape blurs
focusing far and away
as the seasons change
you come into view
for a minute or two
then the moment is gone
and I'm missing you

still.

You were the words to my song
however off key
blushing warm in your presence
my spirit set free.
Always aware
you would go your own way
yet my glass is half full
and the heady bouquet

lingers long.

I remember you in daydreams
like a slide show
with fanfare
so vivid and true.
You are waving at me
my arms open wide
basking warm in the sun

quietly swooning.

Even now
your smile becomes me
in the darkness of dreams
you light up the room
only to wake
tasting salt in my tears
and my poor heart aches
just thinking of you

and what was.

Wonderful song of longing, dear Lori. What was continues to inspire you beautifully. No bitterness, but gratitude I detect here.

Love,
Margherita

This is such a nostalgic and beautifully/sad poem. The quote I highlighted, to me, is the meat of this walk down memory lane. I suppose it touches me so much because I have been in that exact situation. Love this poem.

You read me so well Margherita, yes, it's all good, except the missing, which is what it is.  We never forget those who made a difference.  Thank you always for your insightful replies.

Hi Jp~  The missing never goes away completely, but there is always goodness and happy memories to hold on to.  So that's what I do.  Thanks so much for reading me.

Memories are the essence of all we ever were,
the making of our today, and no matter how heady today might be, it would be nothing without them.  Good piece, my friend...

enjoyed.

Such beautiful daydreams,Blues!!

"You were the words to my song
however off key
blushing warm in your presence
my spirit set free."

This is my favorite verse
But all your words had me
daydreaming.

Enjoyed.

Thank you dreampoet~  I am so happy to see you here.

jwesley~  your reply means a great deal to me, our past friendships are a part of us for all our days.  Thank you for your wise words.

JL~ Thanks for the visit and letting me know you liked those lines.  I feel my poem  is a bit choppy, but I was compelled to write because the missing was so strong.

Maureen~  I know we have both been there done that, and shed a tear or two.  But we made some treasured memories along the way.
Thanks for your kind words.

Hold the memories close for they have helped make you the woman that you are today.  Or should I say the poet that you are today.

Love this one.

With every line, my throat tightened a bit more... and when I came to these, the tears slipped out. When "what was" was so precious, the longing for it never disappears completely. Fantastic write, Blues lady!!!
