Cracked Feather, Broken Wing

Broken wing,
though it seems you lost everything,
I can double-knot the loose string
on your life falling all apart
weathered suitcase and a confiscated heart
you know...

Cracked feather,
you're facing some bad flyin' weather
but I can try to pull you together
from your love going down
inside your soul's deepening well there is a sound
that you know...

Melody memorized by heart
every bitter part
but y'know that's the part
you must play
to live the most of the day

Blue and black bird
limitless is the word the word
or haven't you heard
the shape of a heart is a known quality
the heart of a shape is calling to me
communique via sky
telling me not to stop the wondering why
guess that's what makes me me
I guess I see
moon diamonds, daylight dash dreams, slips of love poems
jabbed into my guitar case as I'm goin'
I admit I don't know where I'm goin'
but maybe it's the goin' that's worth knowing...

Broken wing,
though it's a caged bird singing,
keep your heart's bells a-ringing
shaking this town all apart
even if you're left holding only spare parts
but you know...

Cracked feather,
touching down in a field of heather
I can try to be the black leather
to your white lacy dreaming
I'm a soul drifter finding layers of meaning
but I know...

A melody known by a heart
infamous for its art
but y'know that's the card
you must lay
to signal the end of the day

Blue and black eye
limitless is a lie a lie
and I wonder why
the shape of a heart is in quantity
the heart of a shape is falling for me
communing with the night
telling her not to stop the pouring of light
guess that's all I wanna see
I guess that's me
topaz sun, dawn's inflamed songs, slip of a shimmer girl
stabbed by the light of a daytime world
I admit I'm at the end of this world
but maybe it's the world that's worth twirling..
like a ballerina
with a cracked feather and broken wing,
don't you know

And y'know that's the part
that I have to play
to make the most of everyday,
come what may...
