I have been drifting off to distant lands
In search of One whose passion will with mine
Entwine; one of gracious heart, gentle hands,
Of tender thoughts devoid of poisoned brine
That embitters lovers’ nest, summons strife.
Still, most will turn to more exotic plays —
But I’ve grown tired of such wasted life,
Of the sorrow, and of the twisted ways.
So let Your mirage shimmer and free wield
My heart, do leave this dreamy flight unscathed.
Oh, but fair maiden, be forewarned - my shield
Has lost its sheen, my coat of arms unpraised:
Should still Your heart with mine align, then raise
The veil - entwined let our passion blaze.

Really like this, CastleGuard, it said much and the rhyming was excellent.

I like the reference to the upraised shield.  It's so often our body language tlles one story that is in complete disunity with what our heart is dying for.  Love the fairytale feel to this as well.
