Yes, She called Me Sissie

My children would ignore me
When I called them Sissie
But my mother did it to me
When she was going crazy

We didn’t mean to do it,
My brother, sis, and me,
But my brother had it easy
She didn’t call him Sissie.

I remember kindly the
Moment she looked my way
Called me by my Sissie’s name
Told me, “call her right away!”

I looked at her in teen style
“but Mom, I’m already here!”
She blinked, then winked, and
Said, “I know that, my dear!”

And then she would call me BABY
When we were close, personal
I started to wonder, maybe
Should I gather arsenal

To wither her when she was wrong
To wing her in some flight
When one day I realized, that “baby”,
She was just so right!

To realize the names I might bear
From Baby, to Sissie, to Karilea
And Mom? I’m really glad, for the
Gas I gave you to name me!

Nostalgic memories. Some sad. Others happy. Some tender. This one was filled with tenderness.

This brings back so many memories... My mother didn't like nicknames - but that didn't stop Daddy. LOL And "sister" was one of his many for me - which became "sissie" every now and then.

I couldn't help laugh when I got to the "already here" part... for my ex thought I had it good in spite of the nicknames... His mom would get flustered and call him his dad's name, his brother's name... even the dog's name... to the point where he threatened to wear a name tag. LOL

Enjoyed this!! And Sunshiney One? LOL "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." *G*

Great to have memories to swim around in.
Well, sometimes, and some memories.  But
Then again, that's life isn't it?
Joy, tears, belly-laughs, hiding-out,
hanging-out.  Even the nicknames, bad or good.

Enjoyed the read, Ms. Sunshine.

My mother calls me by my younger brother's name at least once every time I see her.  She tells me stories she's told me before, sometimes twice in the same day.  It makes me aware just how fragile the human mind is.  I don't correct her, how could I?  She's holding on to what she can, as best she can... and even these memories, however wrong they might be in a literal sense, are still meaningful to me...  as I'm sure yours are to you.  Nice reflection here.  Much enjoyed.
