Ripples

The ripples in the pond are like the waves of history,
From each traumatic beginning, flowing out to memory...
And each memory fading till, alas, it's just a thought
That, in the presence of new ripples, I long ago forgot.

The texture and the tincture both as palpable as sand,
I grasp the failing dreams tightly, with wrinkled, rotting hands...
Vowing each time to not let go, a last near-dying wish
But close my eyes as you drift by, to die without without your kiss.

For even when surface is calm, something lies there, unspoken...
And I ignore all good in life, to focus on what's broken.
These ripples really should rock my world, and deep down inside I know this.
A testament to destiny misplaced, I barely even notice.

And even in peaceful waters, I seldom mark the wonder...
But watch, and wait, biding my time, till the day I go under.
The empty smile, there on my face - that picture I paint for you...
A facade I can finally put away, now that the ripples are through.

Soon you will be as one with the ripples, and ride them into bold and new frontiers, looking for, and finding, someone who will forever put the ripples at rest, as you and her construct new ripples forevermore.

This is really deep thought.
You have spoken your "unspoken" and
"deep down inside" you do notice
at least on these "Ripples" of blue pages.
Enjoyed the read, Michael.

JP, lol...  I keep trying to convince myself I have a slab of concrete shackled to each of my ankles, and yet here I am bobbing and noticing ripples; so when it comes to riding one of these suckers out, I guess anything's possible.     Thanks for the encouragement.

JL, you're probably right.  It's not that I don't notice, but just that I've been hit with so many that I've simply shifted to ignoring them, (the ones that want to rock my world anyway).  Wow, that gives me the image of a petulant child with arms folded accross his chest, shaking his head "no!" when being asked to do something.  Uh, thanks for the eye opener, I think.... Lol!

That happens when we are not in peace with ourselves, when we can't see the true wonder WE are ... But you are aware of this and give us an excellent poem here to enjoy and to ponder.

And I ignore all good in life, to focus on what's broken.

That's an easy trap to fall into... I know, I've set up residence amid the broken pieces all too often! *S*

Excellent, thought-provoking write... you grant us not just a glimpse of the writer... but of the reader, as well. *S*

I know dreams like these...

So well executed, Michael!

Margherita, lol... Sometimes I have to have that pointed out to me.     thank you.

Ruth, as much as I have fallen in the past 2 years, I can't say there was ever a time you weren't there to help me up.  Thank you so much for that.

K., waking dreams & wishes, mostly.     but we all have our share I know.     I know you do first hand from what you've shared with us here...  and I thank you for that.
