MY PART

The part I played upon life’s stage
Was only mine to play
And every word that passed my lips
Was molded of my clay

Each deed that out of kindness came
And those of ill intent
Are all recorded on my page
Without a bias bent

The food I ate, the cup I sipped
The comfort of my bed
Where I walked and where I breathed
And where I lay my head

No pressure placed upon my brow
Not once was I coerced
No scene was drawn, no script was etched
No action was rehearsed

God showed my footstep where to tread
My heart how to forgive
But I alone determined
Where to go and how to live

All that I am is in the book
From early days of youth
Soon my weathered page exposed
To light, to God, to truth

Profound and beautiful, dear Elizabeth. I love your thoughts, even as you consider the conclusion of your earthly sojourn, which will inevitably occur in its right time. Truth will be revealed, I believe that too and it is a comforting thought for our yearning souls.

Age sure makes one think, doesn't it, my friend...and I think makes many believe when they never did before.  Fear of death huh.

Enjoyed,

And you, dear lady, have lived with a grace, perception and compassion beyond compare. Your part has given us poems that touch and become part of us (your poem for Toe & Lavender Lace are never far from my heart!)... and a person we love and admire, even if we only know her through her words. I hope it's a long time before God examines the book of you, but when He does? Expect smiles, sweet poet... and arms wide open.

Suthern could not have said it better! You have also shared that "book" with a lot of us, and we are all the better for that sharing.  Take care dear Lizzie.

Your words give me comfort. Thank you poet friends
I remember the poem about Toe. The fact that it seemed accurate to those who know him personally, to me was an honor. He is a good person

Liz, your poem, like you, is beautiful yet true and honest, powerful yet delicate and sensitive, magnificent yet exquisite in its every detail.  Your whole poem had tears of sensitivity welling up in my eyes, but the last 2 lines and Ruth's reply have the tears coursing down my cheeks.

Oh, and, Liz, something important I left out by mistake, is, "brave" - not just now and in the poem, but throughout your life, and especially for taking responsibility for all your actions, no matter whether they are good or bad - so few people do that, and I must commend you for this in no uncertain terms.
