They use to work along the waterfront
with their strong, lanky arms
dripping in sweat from the wet, august days

They had these overalls on
denim blue, slightly faded
tan lines riding over their shoulder blades

Their skin so tan
as if they were offspring of the sun
with their hands like stone
rugged, rough
Lines criss-crossing across their palm
like the droves of grass
that ran east and west
from where they worked
as the roosters crowed

They ran with an easy feel
no mention of mortgages or stacked bills,
nothing like the city folk that anguished
on the other side of town

They shared a common bond
a laughter that squelched the morning sun
a simple life,
where their hands met grace and nature
divided by the earths infinite grace
They shared the tree of life, together.

So far, Tomer, I have read this 3 times, very, very slowly to immerse myself in the scene, the images, the ambiance, the flavour.  I am trying so hard not to say that this is your chef-d'oeuvre and my favourite of yours, because, no doubt, you will outdo yourself soon after this and prove me wrong on this one.

Whilst my second-favourite part is the entire rest of the poem, I think my most favourite lines are:

"as if they were offspring of the sun"

and

"a laughter that squelched the morning sun"

and

"where their hands met grace and nature"

If Vincent van Gogh were alive and read this, I am sure he would be compelled instantly to paint what your readers see.

Owl-

If someone even in the same league as Van Gogh decided to do a painting based on my work, I think I would die a happy death.

I'm happy those 3 lines resonated with you so much.  There is a great pleasure in describing the real heart of America as opposed to the large, well known cities.

Cheers
