The peace of morning, depth of night
Is from a creature , small and light
Life is short , but oh, so sweet
When you and God and nature meet
And all the joy these moments bring
Is in the hum of a hummingbird's wing

The song of nature, crisp and clear
Is heard by you when he draws near
It's not in the sound of the morning breeze
It's not a rustle through the trees
It's not what falling waters sing
It's in the hum of a hummingbird's wing

The sweetest sound I ever heard
Came from an almost silent bird
It's in the hum, it's in the drone
The soft vibrations, easy tone
The song my heart just wants to sing
It's in the hum of a humming bird's wing

I love hummingbirds. I have several feeders and watch them all the time. I have to agree with your lovely poem.

I too have heard the hummingbird's wings hum. A most delightful sound.

...And more smiles - even though I didn't wake up to the actual plethora of hummingbirds for the first time in weeks this morning, this helped me to adjust.  Thanks Liz, and thanks for being my travel buddy...

My theory is that Michigan hummingbirds sing so sweetly because they are so well fed. And they are so well fed because they are so well loved, admired and revered by lovers of nature. Thank you for your kind responses to this poem

Rest assured, Liz, your heart does sing this song... loud, clear, and a blessing to all.

Something tells me those little hummers left a footprint on your heart.  They are well fed, and I am sure word is out worldwide where the guy with the big heart lives.   Loved this Liz.

I loved this Liz, beautifully captured.

These sweet birds just make me smile. I was ready to take the feeders down thinking I hadn't seen any over the last week, until I spied one hungry little guy at my window feeder last night drinking away for ages. He must have been passing through from further north. Man, I love those little birds. Much enjoyed.

Best wishes,
/Kit

You were so beautifully inspired when you wrote this, dear Elizabeth. Deeply charming.
