A Wish Unfulfilled

The Dream opens to the ancient forest
bare feet running down familiar path
heart beating wildly to pain filled tune
moon gazing upon deepest sorrow

Reaching the meadow she does not stop
knowledge that his spirit won’t be there
out of habit the wishing well calls
everything around frozen in time

The star field remembers this sad song
they dim their brightness in sympathy
there will be no dance of souls tonight
time and distance beacons him elsewhere

A dark cloud forms over the valley
lightning and thunder share her torment
raindrops mingle with tears on her face
letting go of a wish unfulfilled

She leans broken on the wishing well
then her spirit embraces the truth
softness and understanding flows deep
harmony and acceptance feels right

The moon is reflected in the well
drawing her gaze to the starlit sky
a meteor shower rains magic
true love will come when the time is right

THIS is a keeper, Karen. You wove a truthful and wonderful poem. The last line is, of course, the kicker. I know that it is true, for I found my true love most recently. True, it isn't the way I had anticipated, it being with complications and all, but it is what it is and I am wonderfully happy.

Excellent write.  Even better close.
That last verse is a gem.
