Ghostwriting

A starless sky, a museless night...
What's a poet to do?
I sit and sigh, in wish to write
Only of something new.
But nothing ever seems to change -
The passion of my veins dry!
Such emptiness one can't arrange...
But simply watch, and wait to die.

I stare into the vapid eyes
Of artistry withheld,
Feeling the chains of compromise,
If cynically compelled...
Somewhat blazened by symmetry,
And darkened by mistrust;
The tapestry born unto me
Is but one of disgust.

I raise my banner to the Gods,
And cry a thankless name.
Bedeviled by the Book of Nod,
And branded with such shame.
A reticent, but mislaid, hope
Behind medieval mask...
I feel the hands of the dead grope,
But hold true to my task.

Still there's not a lot left to say
When madness is your creed...
It's hard to imagine a better way
When suicide's the deed.
But close your eyes to that chalice,
Just pour a cup of sorrow...
The empty cul-de-sac your palace -
A toast unto tomorrow!

Where the sun will shine come morning
But I'll sleep away the day.
Cause there's no hiding - no warning,
Housed in self-righteous decay.
The picture hangs in silence,
Pretty flowers on the wall...
But it never curbs that distance,
Endless miles down the hall.

And the riddle's in the calling
Of a star falling at night.
Though the answer's quite appalling...
At least to one with foresight.
For all I see are shadows dancing
'Round this soul pinned to the floor.
The chair's rocking, and I'm knocking,
Though I don't know exactly what for...
It's clear no one hears me anymore.

Did I waste it?
Not so much I couldn't taste it.

Ah, people are listening,Michael. I get the same feeling every so often, but I've come to the conclusion that we write for ourselves, and cannot do less that keep on writing. You style is simply one to marvel at, and I hope I'll be reading your for a long time hence.

For a poet who couldn't think of anything to write about you certainly wrote an excellent poem...again, Michael.

Most of us would go to sleep, perchance to dream. LOL But if the poet's name is Michael Anderson... he writes anyway... and does so with a voice that should always be harkened. *S* Wonderful write!
