Uploaded with ImageShack.us

wind whips at her tatteredness
like a stain of her own undoing
she tries for a haughty pose
even though, with each step it is apparent
she's dying gradually
with practiced deft steps
she makes her way through the un-kept rabble
the jeers and howls
maintaining a dignity she thought she'd forgotten
her face smiled, then cracked
it'd been so long
something about the old woman
I saw an outpouring of gentle breeding
she measured the faces of those around her
trying to smile, but smile gone now
replaced by an absolute wanting
she needed, at that moment in time
for someone, anyone, to just speak to her
her eyes found mine
and in them I saw such a great need
I would converse with her
no matter that those passing us bye
would consider my conversation with her
as a societal faux pas

Though caused by different circumstances, many of us have experienced such moments... lucky are those who find someone compassionate enough to meet that need.

Excellent write!

I gave up on society's ideas of how I should act and who I should talk to a long time ago. Compassion sows much stronger seeds.

Well done.

Karen, mucho thanks for your kind words, and your inner revelations. It's all about you and how you conduct yourself that keeps YOU happy and able to share some of that happiness.

Humanity is better off with people who want to do something to ease a troubled soul without grandstanding about it, jo. I so appreciate your kind remarks.
