When it is Time to go~repost

Not one for ceremony, pomp or high tea.
leave me be.

Tears may flow, weep if you must, but as for me,
life has ended, as it should.

Neither sighs nor tears from me when it is time to go
Prefer I that laughter spreads and lightens up the room,
and smiles and good memories are shared.

I want no tears or gloom. Go ahead and laugh and tell the stories of the past. It needs be done.
For tears and laughter are related so.

Death is but release from earthly meanderings. A new adventure waits.
This is not death, but promises unkempt and meant to be.

But spare me this, the crowded room with soft whispers of time gone by.

I prefer to see my friends and share the past now,

and so I plan to visit, laugh and share the good times we have had,
not have them gaping at my silent body lain to rest.

latearrival/jo

Time to remind oneself to be with friends now.

What a beautiful reminder!

For Daddy's 85th birthday, we asked people to write a card or brief note to him instead of buying a gift. The response was phenomenal - and he spent many hours pouring over the scrapbook we made of all those cards and letters.

Those friends and family gathered the next  year to say farewell - but I'll always be grateful they told him what he meant to them while he could appreciate the telling... not after he was gone. *S*

I try to live the wisdom you write, dear lady... for if tomorrow doesn't come, the smiles shared today are priceless treasures. *S*  Big hugs!!

Thank you Suthern, for reading this. It is so important to get together as you said.I am glad that happened for you.
This year brought my 80th birthday and my middle son who lives in Ct.came down bringing my oldest daughter. The other three are living here. We had a fast and furious three days, but it was great.I had not seen them all together since my daughter's accicent in 2004 and she was in a comma so did not even know who came for her. SO this was a celebration in many ways.

Family may not all be alike but they love  being together once in a while. I think it gives them each a little sustenance. jo

I myself have been spending more time with family here, it's inspiring to me

my "folks-in-law" are in their 70s and my husband is 53...but age really doens't matter when anyone could be taken from earth at any given time

always live like today is your last, fur sure

nice to read you, and I love you

In the last 5-6 years my wife and I have lost 3 of our parents and even though we saw them (the closest lived 300 miles away) fairly regularly ... it's never enough once they're gone.

Good piece, my friend...glad you reposted, don't remember seeing it before.

Dixie, I am there as Jo Martens Perry. I will go and befriend you.

Charly, Thank you for your nice words.I have no complaints. Life is what it is. Sometimes when you ride the kiddie slides you end up on the ground and sometimes in the water but still climb those stairs back up.LOL

jwesley, I have no one who is older than I am in my family except one of my mother's cousins. She lives far from me. SO I am holding down the record for age right now. Older family members and many friends have already taken the journey. My family  thinks I am good for another five to ten years. We will see ~~~~ jo

Jo, this is so very much you! - beautiful, humble, noble and sincere.  However, don't deny your loved ones, family and friends the heart-wrenching tears and gut-stripping ache (that actually helps to accept, and eventually heal) when that day comes.  You have me in tears already - 5 or 10 years (according to your family) too early!

In this last month, I was able to make contact with four cousins in Scotland (as you know, I am in South Africa) with whom I have never had contact except 2 of them briefly on a visit here when I must have been about 7, 8 or 9.  Three of the four have replied and seem genuinely happy that we have connected.  It is something new for me that any family member of mine (as few as there are of "my family"), except my son and my 2 grandchildren on my daughter's side in Australia, actually cares whether I am alive or dead.  I intend to keep contact with these 3 cousins (hopefully the 4th eventually too) in Scotland for as long as they want me to.

Owl,Please do not think no one would miss you~I would for one.I missed your daily writings and although I think I remember you saying something about the computer causing a problem,I was not sure.I was so pleased to see you posting again. I am kind of stoic myself but have a tender heart.German background I guess. So when the kids saw me really in tears at my surprise 75th birthday they all broke down and cried also.Because of that,I know they will shed a few tears at my demise, but this is to give permission for them to cry and also have a few laughs over all the fun things that went on over the years. This last one was my 80th,as I mentioned above, and no tears as I learned about it a few weeks before the visit. I hope they can smile after the tears are shed. After all we all have to make that trip sometime or another. Best to you and thank you for your lovey words to me here. jo

I only saw this message today on coming back now.  Thank you for such a beautiful martyjo-message and for saying that you miss me when I am not in Pip and would miss me if I had died.  Now, my computer is fine and my Internet connection is fine, but I am just very busy with work and commitments.

I am in awe – you don’t seem nearly 81 at all – I am 67 and delighted to be – but oh, wow!  how delighted I will be to be 80!  It is a grand (in all possible senses of the word) and magnificent age to be!  I wanted to say that I can’t wait (and I wanted to allow myself that impatience - but I want to enjoy all the years in between as well, so I choose to wait patiently to be 80 (and much more – I am greedy)!  I am deeply happy that you have such a loving family.  I admire you so much for all that you are, especially the perfect blend of strength and compassion – the toughness and the softness – and I absolutely love your attitude to all things, not just what you mentioned in this poem – I have heard it said that “one’s attitude determines one’s altitude.”

By the way the 4th cousin eventually emailed me – only once, but it was a lovely email.  Of the other 3, another one only replied once – but a lovely one too, another 9 times, and the other corresponds with me fairly regularly, although I haven’t heard from her in a while – but at least I know how to get hold of them, and they, me.

HI OWL,I wandered in today and was surprised to see this had risen higher up the ladder. How nice of you to say the things you did.It makes an old stoic smile. Thank you and yes it is great to be eighty.I am surprised as most of the women in my family never made it past 67 years. So am indeed the lucky one. Just one of my mother's cousins who lives in Mich. is still living. And one of mine on my father's side is 82.She and I had not corresponded for years but through Face Book we reconnected. I am happy to hear you have found cousins also to reconnect with.Family is nice to have even if not near by.The memories can be shared more easily with them than others who would not know of whom you speak. Thanks for popping in. I have not been here lately so found a surprise waiting for me. best to you.  jo
