Though miles have been accumulated
on my journey to demise
I’m granted no advantage
on subsequent travels.

It’s an advertising gimmick
made to catch the unaware
and force upon the trusting
the burden of cynicism.

Weighted so we walk the trail
for surely in the backpack
there must be memories
of that once-upon-a-time.

But busy, busy, I can’t look
for sustenance not made whole
in this world that doesn’t honour
a traveller’s many miles.

And there’s no flexibility
or willingness to bend
the unwritten rules
that govern everyone.

So this is life, a tyrannical dictator,
that like an evil wizard
slowly, slowly, turns the young
into beasts of burden!

Yep, we have our own tyrannical dictator in the process of completely destroying this country, Helen.

Thanks!  I guess every generation has to learn to cope with whatever prevails but there's hope that the young today will wake up sooner than the young of previous times.

Wow, as I read your poem I thought about
the national debt that we and our children will
have to live through. What have we allowed in the land of the free?  Nothing is free, not even a free market because someone will have to pay the piper. WE are now the beasts of burden! Sh....t! I'm sorry, I
may have had tooo much coffee! Loved your poem HB!

"So this is life, a tyrannical dictator,

I would agree if this is all there was, but to me, life will continue and we will be all the better for it.
Enjoyed the read.

Thanks, Ms E, Bruce and JL.
Good to see you here again, JL, and, yes, we will be the better for it - gone from it all but better.

So much of your wisdom and ability to confront reality here, Helen. Yes, I would have to agree.

Love your words...other than that I'm not going to rant the rave that fills my head...but believe me hell in this country has only just begun if things go on like they are.

America is shopping for a plot, it's very fast losing sight of that white light....

Thanks everyone for your comments - and, Eric, so nice to see you here.  I don't know about "growth" - just call things as I see them but then sometimes the "eyes" deceive.  All just one big plot!
