As Time Goes By

I take this time of ease and wonder
of the days that lay ahead.

Raining now with thoughts umbrella'd
what's to come from words unsaid?

It isn't simply these gaining years
that rest between the sheets well worn.

Instead one thinks a bit too much of
what's to come when past we mourn.

As time goes by and life continues
with all the changes aging shares,

I take it with a smile remembering
a game once played called "musical chairs".

And how sometimes you find the place
to seat yourself in winning style.

Always with that chance of moving
too slow or fast, yet all worthwhile.

So now I take each moment's gain while
window watching through drops of rain.

M

You have the right idea, M. Dilute the past with a mixture of raindrops and studied assault. With some, the past is a monster, and coming to terms with it is difficult if not impossible. I finally reached out for my past October, 2011, embraced them and forgave what I could, including myself, and I breathe easier, am happier than I ever thought possible. Your poem reached me.

Thanks Jerry for your understanding response.
I think of the last 12 or so years that seem to have flown by, especially ever since writing on here and have come to terms with so many things, especially missing so many of my poetry friends from here that are no longer with us but helped me in so many ways.

It is very easy to feel sorry for oneself, and to allow oneself to fall into a depressive state. I am trying to accept where I am today and make the best of it.

You must remember this,
A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.

Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date

You always turn a phrase to make me remember and yes too many of the poets we once knew have moved on (one way or another).  But that is what change is, newness amongst the memories.

It seems that wisdom is gained through the loss of everything else as if it is the most precious gift of all...and perhaps it is.

Always good to live well in the "now" but for some strange reason the mind always strays to the past and to the future which never turns out as we expected it too.
I do like Ida's comment.

May acceptance yet be happy.

This poem is filled with so much meaning and truth.
Loved the line,

Enjoyed your poem.

Beautifully positive with just the right seasoning of sad entwined to make the reality come through.
We all wonder the same way these days, LOL!
Acceptance is key isn't it?
Excellent write!

I'm with you here. But the past has slipped away and what we are missing now are the things we forgot to do while busy with other things. There is still time; all it takes it the will. Best to you, jo

I'm in the now  just trying to survive this heatwave once again  waiting as I hear the thunder, see the lightning coming this way hopefuly to rain and cool us off a bit. SO I thank everyone who has responded and apologize for not being on line often enough to thank you, as I try to escape the heat by finding a cooler spot than  sitting here.

Yea, those were the days, but I never really liked musical chairs....something about not finding your seat and falling on your butt.

These days are more precious than ever, because we learn to appreciate that each one is truly a gift.

Hope you are well Maureen. Love and many hugs~

Absolutely lovely.
I love that last stanza.
So much understanding, and feeling,
from heart and soul expressed in verse.

hey "Bluesy" what a nice surprise to see you here.  Things are going as well as they can but I certainly miss many of my friends on here...I will always have a special place in my heart for you and if ever on the east coast let me know...I have a bit more freedom to move around as I age. Huge hugs hoping you are doing well.

JL and Scooter thank you for your kind replies. There is much history here with many pip friends both online and in real. So much has happened both good and bad in many of our lives in which we all can relate to.

Thanks again...  p.s. if I am slow to respond it is because I am forced to upgrade computers etc. and am still learning.

I remember so many words, feelings, and people...

it's good to see some still around though

Hey Dixie, thanks for stopping by.  You can always reach me at my plzdntgo@aol.com address for now. I am terrible with facebook and don't twitter  and of course hardly anyone is using messenger anymore...so the internet is rather lonely for me right now until I find the time and ability to upgrade my technology skills.

yes M, I know how that is. Since I upgraded my internet speed, I can't get on messenger at all so I just uninstalled it. Plus I have a new computer with windows 7. I'll put you in my address book in my gmail.

This is beautiful, Maureen. There is no rain, here. I wish there was. Instead the temperature is 106.
I called several stores to get another air conditioner, but they were all sold out. My air conditioners are so old, they aren't putting out enough cold air. Aside from that, I have been sick.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem. Hope you are doing well.

You may have "especially missing so many of my poetry friends from here that are no longer with us" and I guess we "new" ones can't hold a candle to those gone, but I, for one, enjoy your poetry and your claim for redemption. Pardon me if I am too forward.

Jerry, I don't mind you being forward but for many of us who have remained friends on here for almost 12 years, my response about missing them  is their friendships we had (many from meeting in real and now have passed away) and  meant no disrespect to any of the newer poet friends.

Some of us went through some very hard times and our poetry released many of those feelings and for me,  helped me get through some very dark hours expressing it through my words and through the understanding in the replies.

N'oz, icebox, and Sue thank you for sharing your thoughts.  Sue keep checking with the stores, try Walmart, HHGregg, Best Buy etc. they may have some  in stock now.  I know how hot  and humid it has been here...unbearable at times, keeping me from enjoying the summer. Hope otherwise you are doing well.

Hey Toe, so glad to see you back and joining in.

I appreciate everyone here...

Little Mo how wonderful to see your beautiful poem, this is simply gorgeous, absolutely exquisite writing, just beautiful. Krissy was talking about you the other day, asking if I knew how you were, so I came to our old playground to see if you had posted at all and found this beauty. Thank you for the delight you have gifted us with. YOU are one amazingly gifted writer x x

Hi Marsha, it's so great to see you here. I have been on the down side lately...caught some type of bug keeping me from feeling up to too much hoping for it to be in the decline soon since schools are about to start here.

I sure miss and think about you, your daughter, Keth and the others and am happy to hear that you are working towards your degree.

I watched the olympics,  enjoying the many views of London and wondering if you were able to enjoy any of it.

"hugs"

Peek-a-boo! How are you, Pal? So nice to read you again, and equally smile-inducing to see that your style is still very "you". Any TOL's of late...?
