Blue and Black and White

A little bit of blue, a lot of black and white...
The colors of a wedding so precious in my sight.
My grandaughter sprinkling petals... that impish grin on her face.
My son proudly escorting the bride in his father's place.

My daughter in her tierra, a godly glimpse of perfection
Oh, for me to not be there that day - a stern price for indiscretion.
But trapped in my own era, with only one truth to embrace;
I missed my daughter's wedding, in isolated disgrace.

Blue and white boquet in hand, amid laughter and smiles.
Mother and daughter, in matching white, taking turns down the aisle...
While I've finally come to understand what reality's dissevered:
I lost my chance to do things right - that day is gone fiorever!

How purely selfish I must be, to grieve over their day of joy,
While, at the same time, feeling so proud... of both my girl and my boy.
My boy, in black, honor upheld - all I could never be.
I only hope he will shake my hand come the day I am set free.

A little blue being all that's left, perhaps in stray thought of me;
I only pray the beautiful bride saved a dance for her daddy.
...That for all I stand bereft of, I won't yield to this sorrow,
But learn from days I can't have back to cherish what's shared tomorrow.

Heartbreaking, Michael, and I think that is enough said.

You remind many of us what
we are indeed thankful for,
Michael, in your own,
inimitable way.

Thank you, m'friend.

That's the key, dear.     You're one of the few that I know that can.  ((hugs))

Missing such a special occasion was a lash across your soul and every word of this wonderful write breaks my heart - until I get to the last line. And that's the key, my friend. Every moment we spend regretting what's not or wasn't is a moment we waste the chance to appreciate what is or can be.

Michael,

This is a heart-breaking read.  Yet, the love you have for your children shines through the sadness.  There are days that we will never recover - I wish you joy in the days ahead that you can capture.

Thank you for sharing the most poignant pieces of your life with us.
