distant is the voice
that gives substance to my essence

is it in a fogbank of insecurities
for an unusual season

or have I left it dead or dying
in the mean streets of yesteryear

I think that voice calls from the grave
and laughs and laughs and . . .

what graveyard must I go to
to conjure up that voice
that gives substance to my essence

hi jerry, these are intriguing words, like a false appeal, a pardox of the grave that we flee and which call us, i love the atmosphere of the poem and the successful message,

What graveyard, indeed? I like the theme here as well, in the sort of what came first... the chicken or the egg, sort of way. The pondering of what brings substance to essence is brilliant. And taking that substance in search of essence, darkly satisfying.
