Passing Through

Sweet melody breaks the silent night,
...Distant, distinguished tones in flight.
...A feather tickling midnight's chime.
...A hypnotizing, wordless rhyme

That calls my name, soft with the tune;
As I follow along, immune
To any reason I should stay.
Drawn yet further... further away.

Unto a place I've never been,
Where consciousness is not a sin.
A place I feel calling my name,
Walking, head held high, free from shame.

...Where's Summer's warmth cascades through me.
...Where's Fall's first frost shimmers duly.
...Where Spring's essence perfumes the air,
As I'm drawn on, without a care.

And if the moment finds me there,
Where, more than in words, you're aware
Of I, who am just passing through...
Glimpse it but with a dreamer's view.

An inkling of peace drawn wondrously
Around a touch you've shared with me.
Though mourn it not, some later day...
It's but a memory away.

Now, I see the ocean... the waves
Unlocking all subconscious saves,
As I tread on, as the wind stirs,
And every inclination concurs...

She is my love, this gentle foam.
She is the voice guiding me home.
Gladly, I let her arms embrace me.
Tomorrow, another will replace me.

Did I waste it?
Not so much I couldn't taste it.

This is fantastic, Michael. A Masterpiece love poem to the sea who shows its pleasure by its grateful foam. A not so jealous love is this, knowing full well the dawning of the morrow's sun will find another in your place. But you've come away with memories and this lovely, fantastic (say it again) piece of work.

This is like a dream come wanting, Michael. Tenderly beautiful, all one can do is reach out to touch, before the dream slips away.

Lovely writing.

oh my...

this hits home for me for sure! How I miss the ocean/beach...the beautiful sugar white sand that nestles along the warm teal Gulf waters

sad because I too have been replaced

Beautiful poem Michael, and I can not even imagine a day of my life with out the sea in it.  I never take it for granted.

Beautiful writing Michael.
So many things to observe and absorb.
Make sure you fix that hole in the boat before you cast off......just kidding.
Glad you're passing through and leaving these thoughts.

Footprints left on shifting sands will be erased... those left on someone's heart become a part of that person... The prints may fade a bit but they're always there. And foam may be fickle but true friends are not... poets who can weave words such as these and touch hearts the way you do are definitely irreplaceable. *S*

This is magnificent, beautiful, fantastic... I need a better vocabulary to hope to do it justice! *S*

JP, yeah, there's nothing so peaceful as the ocean for a man like myself.  My one true love, indeed.

K., the attributes you credit to this poem are pretty much identical to the attributes I credit to life.  Not many ever see it though...  Thank you for the wonderful compliment.

Startime1955, glad to let you see through my eyes for a bit.

Dixie, I remember this California boy's first trip to the Gulf... I could not believe the warmth of the water, or how clear it was.  I like my cold Cali water still, but you Gulfers sure do have something special there.

Mysteria, I envy you that you're lucky enough to see the sea on a daily basis.

Ms E., thank you... I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Eric, lol... One of my first ocean memories involved a hole being punched in the bottom of our little row boat some 100+ yards from shore.  We were still about 50 ft. out when it sank completely, and had to fight the riptides before we finally touched land again.  I learned early to respect the magnificence, and sheer magnitude,  of the ocean.  BIG ocean/little boat = bad combo.

Ruth,     thank you for the wonderful compliment.  When a person has been touched by another, and I don't mean physically... Indeed, they do become part of that person.  Always. "but a memory away."
