We made it to the top of Sunrise peak just as the sun was setting a blaze to the western skies
The evening star was already twinkling above our heads as we set up camp and built our fire
Darkness crept around us like a woolen blanket as the night birds called out in search of the moon
Crystal clear was a sky that allowed every star in the galaxy
to shine on our mountain top retreat as we snuggled up in our sleeping bags

We picked out the different constellations and marveled at how they have been there
longer than man had been staring at them in wonder

I'm not sure when I fell asleep but my dreams seemed to be a reflection of the evening,
and all was right with the world.
At least my little corner of it at this moment, on top of a mountain in the magestic Rockies.

The singing of mountain Jays and the chattering of the Aspen leafs woke me
and as I lay there listening and thinking how small I was in the vastness of this universe
I couldn’t help but wonder why I was here, what was the purpose of man on this earth?

Then off in the east, where before the horizon was not visible, the sky started to change colors
Slowly at first, just a hint of light floating through the clouds
changing from black to grey with a touch of blue and pink
and I could make out the beautiful peaks of the mountain range across the wide valley below.

The birds called to the sky like they were beckoning the sun to rise
as if it was up to them to make sure it came up
and it was the most wonderful song I had ever heard.

Then it happened, the birdsong must have worked, because before my eyes the sky began to glow
the fluffy clouds began to glisten and the colors became like a kaleidoscope of memories
from a prehistoric campfire; flickering, moving, and capturing every essence of the morning’s glory.

Brighter and bolder, the clouds seamed to coax the sun up, as if they were saying; “shine on me, make me happy” and the sun obeyed. With everything it had, it burst forth with the most spectacular flames the clouds had ever seen, shooting arrows of gold and fire though oceans of blue and silver, lighting the sky like a brilliant beacon sent from God to those that were waiting,
letting them know; this day had begun.

And as I watched in wonder and amazement, I looked around and noticed that everyone in camp was watching with me, and I realized why we were here; why we mere mortals were a part of this world;

For what would be the purpose of such beauty, if no one was around to enjoy it?
Yes: To marvel at the wonders of Gods creations!

Our journey through life is more than just work and struggle for everything we want and need.
We must take time to enjoy the simple things,
to listen to the birds welcome a new day,
to watch a sun come up,
to picture the stars as they tell the stories of old.

I've heard it said that; “Life is just a collection of memories”

But more than that,
We have the power to make the kind of memories;
That shine brighter than the stars
Glow warmer than the fullest moon
Or gleam more brilliant than the most glorious sunrise.

God has given us these gifts to enjoy
and the ability to create the memories that warm our hearts and calm our souls.

And like those stars that have captured the imagination of the millions before,

'Our memories will go on forever'

The answer is always NO, Until the question is asked.

Thank you for the very beautiful descriptive journey your prose took me on today. I wasn't expecting what I received when I clicked on "Memories," but I thoroughly enjoyed your wordplay and the images you sent my way. Than you again . . .

What a gorgeous morning you paint for us... and what beautiful wisdom you share. This set my spirit singing... May all your memories be just as beautiful!
