a man alone
the game of life nearly up for him
he stands on the craggy cliff
of uncertainty
just one man among many
searching for his lost footprints
they were there
only yesterday
or maybe it was the day before
within his thought
the man
hears the screams
that should have nothing to do with him
but they do

grim reaper is close at hand

he knows it
he understands it
he sheds not one tear
he only wishes
he could find his lost footsteps

Good stuff Jerry
Like Sinatra, regrets I've had a few.
Can't change some things but can't lose the memory of them and always wonder from time to time about all those old woulda, coulda, shoulda things.
Makes ya human and glad you can even wonder about the lost footsteps.

I'm sure you know...........

Take care

Ah, Eric, you always seem to know just what to say. Yeah, I have some regrets, but I have made peace with them and some incident that go further even than regrets. I am a happy man heading toward my mid-seventies (two years), and am as healthy as modern miracles can make me. Thank you, man.

If that's a recent picture of you my friend you sure are leading into the mid seventies looking like your in your fifties.

I'll have to have a drink to your health cause these days you're really doing well.

Thank you, Karen, and no, there isn't anything wrong with seventy something as long as you still can move on your own and can still think.

Eric, the photo is three years old, so I was seventy when it was taken. Yeah, I've been lucky I guess in aging as I have. No complaints yet. Thanks for having that drink, I'll be toasting you with some cheap California burgundy in about an hour myself.

yeppers! lookin' good for sure

I guess I'm in a mood to say Thank God I can't find my footprints! Too many bad memories they would conjure up.

Sad poem though, and I relate, but today is today, and tomorrow is tomorrow, and well, yesterday is gone. Footprints never stay long.

Thanks for making me think a little today.

Those footsteps have a long way yet to go,
JP! I have a feeling you are enjoying life now more than ever.

You know what, Ms E? You are absolutely correct, I am as happy this minute as I ever remember being before. I'm so glad I didn't grow into a disgruntled and miserable old fart. Thank you for saying such a nice thing.

Plenty to think about, Jerry and you can rest assured that you are not the only one thinking about it. I think your poem speaks for all of us.

Many of us face the end looking back.  I myself seem to be foremost among them, but I have a sneaking suspicion a little more attention could be paid to where we're going.  Or at least invested in a new pair of shoes, in my case.  Always enjoy your ponderings... we ride the save wavelengths much of the time it seems.

Yeah, we do meander around the same wavelengths, Michael. I'm not always looking back, but when you get a certain age there is just more to look back for than there is to look ahead. Thanks for stopping by.
