Okay, this is intensely personal, unabashed love stuff . . .

I had said, "I am desperately in love
with a woman I can't touch."

She replied, Maybe that I'm untouchable
makes me safe to love.

how can I make her understand
my great love for her
overshadows ALL great loves
recorded in history
how can I say the words
words which will instill my truth and sincerity
my love for her
which will make her undoubt me

lend an ear
of all the ones I've whispered
I love you to
she's the only one to truly be loved by me
love was never mine to have
therefore I could not give it
until she came into my life
all those long, lonely decades of my past
the lies to the women
when I whispered those words
because, quite frankly, I didn't know what love was

until her
if she was touchable
I would most certainly love her
but that love
spilling from my essence
could never be more intense as it was
when she was untouchable
I love her
my whole being loves her
there is no more love within me to give

all the love
I held back from those other women
she has been broadsided by
she is the beneficiary
of love personified
whether she is untouchable or touchable
she still she has her doubts

I know these are merely words
but words are all I have at my disposable at present
therefore . . . I rest my case

ah, I won't say they were "lies"...because you didn't know what you were missing until it came along...

and I'm glad it did.

Wow, JP, these soul words are beautiful...
they surely have touched the untouchable,
the heart.
Enjoyed, ms.e

They are words from the heart... and therefore, priceless.

I'm glad for you!

Intensely personal, indeed... I've been broadsided by that bus a few times myself, as you know quite well.  If I've learned nothing else about love in this life, it's that love entails wanting nothing but happiness for the loved one and expects nothing in return for what it offers.  It's a wonderful emotion to share, but can be overwhelmingly grievous when not.  Still, it's an emotion I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.  I wish you the best, my friend.

Thanks, Michael, but I guess wanting and receiving doesn't always work out, as you also are well aware of. It is fun while it is fun and heartbreaking when it isn't. Thanks for lending your shoulder . . .
