Nothing

When you know there's nothing left to say,
Why's it so wrong to say nothing?
I see those eyes all look my way,
And all searching for something.
If I couldn't answer them before,
What hope is there really, now?
Now that Death's knocking on the door,
And I can't stop him, anyhow.

It's not that I don't wish I could
Find a way to appease them.
But more than that, 'know all deeds good
Are but for the eye that sees them.
And in the darkness, wandering lost,
Another morning's slipped by me...
Still, I've no right to count the cost,
For all it may deny me.

For all those things I never felt,
But for forty years gave witness...
For all I touched, and then watched wilt,
Declaring for all my unfitness.
The tragedy of comedy,
I know it's me the jokes on.
Now here it is, for all to see,
With all that love invokes, drawn

About me in pleading silence,
As I await the final curtain.
Just know, for me, there's no suspense...
For me, nothing is certain!
Another lost morning, another lost day
Behind this gossamer pall.
It's not that I've nothing left to say...
It's that I've nothing left at all.

You sound like an empty shell, Michael, but anyone who can write poetry as profoundly as do you, you'll never make me believe this last line of the poem, "It's that I've nothing left at all."

Yes, you most certainly do have something left, you have plenty left and you will work your way in the direction of self re-discovery eventually, I have no doubt about it.

I agree with Jerry...to have a gift to write so well means you will have plenty to say and share with us still...*BIG HUGS*

“Now that Death's knocking on the door,”

‘But for forty years gave witness...’

Unless you mention something like cancer,
there’s a disturbing element of pretentiousness
Short of that or dying of wounds
gained in war no one unwillingly dies
at forty anymore . . .

JP, Startime 1955,  Thank you for the encouraging words.  Whatever is left, I will gladly share it with you all.

Huan Yi, suffice to say that when my mind is consciously "gone"... and it's been gone alot lately, but I am speaking of permanently gone; I have no intention of finding out how long modern medicine or machinery can keep the body going without it.  If that makes me a willful participant in my own death, in your mind, so be it.

Another lost morning, another lost day
Behind this gossamer pall.
It's not that I've nothing left to say...
It's that I've nothing left at all.

You've got me, my friend. *S* And I'll leave it to you to decide whether that helps or adds to the nightmare. LOL

And if you don't have the answers, you still have the words... and words from your pen are always always SOMETHING... something magnificent. *S*
