When good looks cracks and falls apart,
I didn't wail and moan from the heart.
If my love has been shown the gate,
I'll not let my heart turn to hate.
Some men can't deal with love's sad end,
When women says let's just be friends.
Male or female hate to discover,
That their love affair is over.
Some are gullible, some are wise,
Who is it then that buys love's lies?

I guess the good thing is millions stay together for a lifetime and it develops security in the family unit.
However, as imperfect humans we can't get it right sometimes or we're being deceived as you allude to.
Those words are described by Bob Lind in
"The Ilusive Butterfly Of Love." Or maybe that should be elusive....smile...

Everybody continues to search it's a genetic biological function that kicks the snot out of us sometime and yet, we get back up.
Excellent write!

WoW! What a treat, Eric, and thank you very much. Yes, you are one hundred percent correct when you say the pursuit of love kicks the snot out of us, but we always struggle back on our feet and keep on a-looking.

Again, thank you for the treat . . .

"You might have heard my footsteps
Echo softly in the distance through the canyons of your mind"

Fantastic!

Jerry
I don't post lyrics on someone's work very often as I don't want you to feel like I'm trying to minimize the value of your fine work here.
Just thought you might enjoy that.

I can remove it if you wish.

Nope, don't remove it, man. I thought I had made it clear that I liked it very much. I said it, and I am not a b.s artist.

Yeah, Karen, the love, when it is good, there is nothing in the world like it. When it goes bad, again, there is nothing in the world like it.

the beautiful thing about love is that it is there before and after the romance ... before and after the passion... before and after death...

Yeah, I guess so, but love sadly dims when the passion and romance are gone, Lori.

not always my friend, sometimes it mellows into something much deeper and stronger than the romance and passion

What a powerful poem this is.

"If my love has been shown the gate,
I'll not let my heart turn to hate."

was a great line... but the ending to this outshown even it.

Great writing, friend... and I love it when you let the rhyme show thorough.

I appreciate the nice words you have for this poem, Michael, and I will never forsake the rhyme. I don't use it as much as I used to, but rhyming is poetry, I almost consider free style as prose.
