   The 'Deep-Time' Story

Wild–willow leaves
dance a Summer breeze
and seem to stroke
the troubled mind
like soft-velvet fingers,
as ancient oaks sweep
the clouds and sing
a deep-forest lullaby
to the lonely heart,
along this lucent stream
on the vanishing edge
of  ‘endless’ mountain
  wilderness;
here, four hundred
million years are but
an infinitesimal flicker
in the annals of life.
What are our petty desires,
schemes, and regrets against
the inestimable march and
pageant of  the ‘Deep-Time’
   story?!

Our paltry existence measured with the time behind us seems somehow less that we think it really is, Bruce. Still, humans, as far as I can discern, are the only creature in this long history which can think coherently and apply our thinking to the greater good of mankind. If, at times, we overstep and create more problems, that is usually overcome in future years. Yes, we are minute within the grand scale of this old earth, but I believe we are very important to it. Good poem, and it got me rived up.

Enjoyed, Bruce!

"What are our petty desires,

story?"

Not much I would say.
