Regret

I wake the day up and walk it 'round in a haze
another's tear stains shimmer in the early sun's rays
all the night the fight took on it's own way of living
it's own way of taking away, replaced with pain giving
don't know if I can spend the rest of my time paying
but I'll try it anyway
anything I can do to transcribe what her heart is saying
and color in the grey

Regret
tinged these emotions
I won't forget
I will stumble through oceans
just to get back to where I left off
a girl and a debt needing to be paid off
half finished paintings of feelings I long since archived
in all these over-the-shoulder years, I don't know
how they ever survived
and this regret
a bet I should have bet

I sleep off the night to dream it into the lost and found
the past's footprints hammer me into the ground
all the memory of the very recent night, a forgiving
it's sought high and low, past life and now-living
wish I knew how long I need to keep grieving
for her heart's breaking
but anything I can do to show her my heart's leaving
with her leave-taking

Regret
bittersweet this feeling
I won't forget
all these years I've been reeling
from things said, never meant to harm
but this war inside me I've yet to disarm
half finished sentences I need to return to sender
reign in all these under-the-bridge tears, I'll try
to begin to mend her
and these regrets
I won't forget

I will stumble through emotions
split apart the ocean
just to get to her
just to begin to mend her
fade my regrets as the sun sets
and finally pay off all my debts
yeah finally try to live with all my regrets
