Oh-my-lover-lied-to-me--
I'm stunned by my stupidity.
And then?
I married him
decreed
thinking this
protected me
from the pain of her,
her plans
survialist with legal maps
she said I ought to take a nap
I trusted her:
I trusted him.
I thought the best
of both of them.
She called me stupid to my face
and I feel guilty in disgrace
for all that hatred I misplaced?
I wish he'd died in pain's complaint
about the bargaining erased
between the two of them.

* * *
I rubbed my head and fell asleep.
I fell into a dream of weep.
Houses, houses, everywhere,
I had to sign my name and there
were houses more than family:
"Whose is this I sign to keep?"

I did not understand the fourth--
the address, I asked
"Whose the source?"
They looked at me reluctantly
and told me that it was my son's.
WAS??? Oh-tell-me
where is he? Where is my daughter?
"They're deceased."

My husband? Sister? Nephew? Niece?
"I'm sorry, but they're all deceased."
"I had another brother, he?"
"Died in the war with bravery
medals here for testament..."

Sign here. And here. And here, again.
What happened to my family?
"They were victims of The war."
I had a daughter--tell me, please?
"Sign the papers, you will see
and live your life more comfortably--
a stipend granted unto you,
as burials are paid."

And so I did. I paid for graves.
I signed away the homes we'd saved,
wishing I'd died anyway
when the sun had shine to say:
"Check your ink. It's blood."

I like the flow of this - the back and forth. Enjoyed.

This dream...
is, but a dream to be,
dreamt again
but, with a better end.

This terrible dream you dreamt is not so far from reality for too many who actually have lost almost everybody and everything, because of war or other dramatic events. Maybe your consciousness has mingled with theirs and you wrote somehow on their behalf, to find peace.

You write in a way that takes the breath away, dear Karen.

I really need to stop writing.

*shudder*

I give myself the creeps.

Thank you all for your amazing enduring patience with me.

I've had some doozies of nightmares... but the ones where I'm alive without those I love are the worst... they leave an ache that the alarm clock doesn't ease.

This gripped me with every word... (((HUGS)))

No, you shouldn't stop writing but you creep me out sometimes, too.
Nice to see you're still here, K.

Was glad to see this one brought back up.  I remember reading it a few times over the first time around... thought it was great.  Sorry I never got around to replying to it then.
