I'm working my way toward my end
I've spent nearly a lifetime being angry
just within the last year I can smile

ending my reign upon this sphere
how thunderous should I pass into the beyond
maybe I should just let things be . . . go with the flow

although I've calmed down in these, my later years
my mindset is still that of a reckless wild child
I've merely learned to keep it under control

I've some frayed ends locked inside my memory bank
still . . . it wouldn't bother me if the end came today
even so, there are things I need/want to do before my demise

if you happen to be here
as life is sapped from my eyes
be comfortably warm with the understanding
that knowing, and loving you
from that great distance
was worth more to me than all the other
kisses and midnight embraces

so, if you will, place a chilled bottle
of cheap California burgundy beside me
to speed me on my way

Enjoyed your poem, JP, but you're not going to meet the man in the sky anytime soon!  Enjoy your burgundy... and life, my friend.

What intensely beautiful and poignant thinking you have performed here, dear Jerry. You may still be the wild child (and that is ok!), but your heart loves to show its romantic side, its depth of emotions and well ... your heart just knows how to touch other hearts. So here is to the hope that you will continue to contemplate "things" as you did here.

Great honest write Jerry.
Can't blank out all those memory banks can we.
The mellow is a great feeling all the same.
Good stuff man!

Reminded me of a joke.

Two Irish guys that had been close friends all their life made a pact with one another.
Pat said to Mike, "Mike, if I die before you, will you pour a bottle of our favorite Irish whiskey over me grave, just to honour our great lifelong friendship?"
Mike said, "I certainly will Patty and you can do the same for me!"
Both agreed.
A short time later Mike got sick and was in the hospital with a terminal disease.
Pat came to see Mike in the hospital and Mike reminded him of the pact.
"Yes, Mike, me lifelong pal, I will do as agreed, I'll pour that fine whiskey over your grave but I was just wondering about one thing."
"What's that Patty?"
Pat replied, "Would you mind if I passed it through me kidneys first?!!"

Take care my friend.

No, Ms. E, it is as I said, I have a few things I still want to do before the end. Appreciate the time and effort you tool to read and comment.

Oooh! Eric. Cruel to the nth. On second thought, what the hell?

Thanks for your nice thoughts on my "thinking," and yep, pass it through your kidneys first, by all means.

Thank you, Bruce. Just one of those inspirations that flooded the keyboard one day. Appreciate your kindness.
