Saluting with misty eyes

Hi, Daddy,
We just stopped by today to see you
I know you can't talk to me
But, that's OK... I don't mind
They say that you can't see me, either
I don't think they understand, though
You can see me, you said you would
You know, Daddy, I don't like this
White has never been my favorite color
Not yours, either
You said green was always your favorite
Olive green, just like you always wore
But, they have this white marble thing here
I told Mommy it should be green
I said you wouldn't like it
Mommy said you wouldn't know
But, I think Mommy is wrong
You still see me, you know everything
Well, Daddy,
Mommy says it's time to go
Here are the flowers I brought you
I know you'll like them
Since I can't hug you
I will hug your white rock
I love you
Thank you for being my Daddy forever

I saw a photo of a little girl hugging a military gravestone and was inspired to write this. I know it is a day late for Memorial Day (US); however, I do that sometimes.

This is timeless, dear Ringo, as it reflects the emotions of too many little children who have to cope with the loss of their daddy.

And ... they do know better than adults that the soul connection continues, just as you suggest.

Beautiful and poignant.

It's never too late to talk to your daddy or commemorate something special.

Ringo,

I believe every day should be Memorial Day.  We should always remember, feel and pay tribute to those who fight and die for us.  Thank you for this - I am very moved.

It's good to see you back.

Thinking this should be posted often, and at least annually.

Well done, my friend.
