there are some who ridicule today
and the men and women who have died for their country
there are some who spit in the faces of heroes
who have fought to give them the right
to spit and curse
war is never pretty, it is war
I stand and salute the ones who have given their lives
for the freedom some are using to tear us apart
I bow my head to those disfigured
and mentally affected from the horrors of war
this is not just another day

You're right Jerry
War is never nice.

It's hard to fathom some forms of disrespect in this world today.

To curse and spit on anyone is impossible to be right.

I agree with you, those disfigured and mentally damaged from such action never need to be used in such a manner as degrading as you write here.

Strong words my friend! Needed words!

Thank you, Eric, for the kind words you have penned about my patriotic poem today.

A day to remember and to salute all who have served our country, so that we may live in peace.

I have just watched a documentary on tv with many interviews to survivors and it was extremely moving. The silence of those huge cemeteries over here speaks for itself.

I appreciate your words. And no, this is not just another day. We need to remember and to honor those who succeeded in stopping the consequences of the folly of a criminal mind, sacrificing their lives.

Peace,
Margherita

Having been raised in the military and then raising my children in it your poem touches deeply...my heart goes out to all who serve that we may live free...returning men and women often have unseen wounds that last thier lifetime...Thank you so much for this very powerful poem...*BIG HUGS*

Thank you so much, Karen. Yes, the unseen mental scars are sometimes the worst kind.

I loved the title... and nodded with each line of the poem. Freedom isn't free - and a couple of days a year isn't nearly enough to say thanks to those who pay the price.

Thank you for this!
