Wale Knot

Morning,
alive with a fresh gale,
warbling sounds,
life motions active
with bulrush
sprinkled thin
and being tossed about
by the warm wind…

Past mornings
memory only.
So seems the gale
then, was pleasant to canoe
tied at camp moorings…

Those times past
never to be seen
again…
as once Wompeague worn,
at times traded
by native brown skin.
A posteriori
now as analysis
celebrated by currency
of a once-was heritage…

Their squaw’s hair
braided to wale knot,
today abandoned
from this Palo Duro Canyon.
Its southern plains Indians
for history only,
now,
a burial plot…

Nicely done, JL. Heritage and history and the death of a race is never easy to write about or to read. You did a "whale" of a job.

Thanks, Mr. JP.
I got the inspiration from Lori's:
"The Knot of Naught", and a few other thing-a-ma gigs....

I appreciate the reply.

Amazing picture.  Even more amazing the power of your words.  I can feel the sting.  /Exasperated sigh here.
