Dream Island

I relax close eyes let my heart soar
to a place hidden from mortal view
where magic still lives and love’s fulfilled
created by me as an escape

The waves lapping against the shore sooth
easing the pain of so many years
filling the ears with mermaids sweet song
and bringing a smile from deep within

White clouds drifting across azure skies
take shape of horses and unicorns
shifting and changing with a light breeze
gently sighing caressed by the sun

The steep cliffs are covered in soft grass
wild flowers nod a rainbow of heads
black clouds approach on ominous winds
with thunder to steal the inner screams

Warm rain mixed with tears runs down my face
cleansing me from within and without
filling with love for all who draw near
My Dream Island is where I find me

What a wonderful summation of a dreamer's poetic El Dorado.(mythical land of gold treasures, object of Spanish expeditions)
So very nicely done Karen flowing from innocent school girl expressions to mature woman throughout.
