Hold Me

Standing in the open
gazing at star filled skies
My mind drifts to the past
when desires were not met

With no knowledge of love
or tenderness of touch
I sought out the minds thoughts
saying love was desire

Love’s desire does not last
its fleeting at its best
He just wants to control
and take her self esteem

While she still has the dream
of one to touch her soul
Life leaves her lost for years
loves hope dying daily

She has to learn what love is
more than just hot desire
He has to enfold her
in strong protective arms

She beseeches in dreams
is there a yearning heart
Do others understand
wanting one to hold me

Dramatic and soul searching is this down to earth look at love, or what passes for love. I understand completely what you have said here. Love has come late in my life, very late. I cringe at some of your descriptive passages, Karen, for I see myself in them.

Yeah Star you're so right.
It's complicated love is, involving the needs and the lack of needs filled sometimes.
Those that use and those hurt to the heart's core from being used, never to be the same sometimes.
But the beautiful desire for fulfillment is always lingering, waiting and somewhere in there lies the truth about the complications of love.
Sometimes a beautiful meaningful hug is better than a hot steamy session in the hay.....LOL but don't give up on the latter.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful write.

Thank you...I think for us who have been damaged by love that is not love still hold in our inner soul the dream of true love even if in later life...I am very happy that you found your hearts desire...*HUGS*

LOL...not to worry this red head would never loose the desire for passion...I just know now that love is so much more and that is what I search for...but first I must learn to love me...that is why I have come back to my writing although I thought I had lost that also...to read the hearfelt feelings of so many writers and to write from the heart fills me with inner peace...Thanks Eric...you are a very special person to me and I am very glad for the happiness you have found...*BIG HUGS*

*may our dreams ever be magical*

Sliding scale is love..

I find it more waxes and wanes than just fades..

Enjoyed the read,
Bares some of the vulnerability we all feel.

"She has to learn what love is

That's a good start, and a fantastic poem.
Enjoyed the read.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.
