fleeting mirrors of those in the night
haunt the ShadowPoet
those transitory glimpses of
sensuously painted red
lipstick
it will eventually wash off

not so the memories

life, back then, was afire
so hot
so passionate
so . . . ShadowPoet
cloudbursts couldn't extinguish it
the ShadowPoet's
pen trembles with remembrance
fire in the belly
scorching everything he touched
leaving ugly scars
wondering eyes, lips unkissed
hearts wounded
to the quick
he has forgiven himself
have they
his women with all their damage
have they
slipped a noose's knot
around the ShadowPoet's forgiveness
where it dangles suspended
even in death

Time.
They forgive.

Great writing my friend...Love those self examination questions.....fodder for reflection.

Yeah, I think you are probably right about the forgiving part, Eric. Appreciate you being here.

I have discovered, Karen, that by the time we think back to those "bad" days we are not the same person, so self forgiveness is like forgiving another person. Thank you for being here.

Indeed, no one ever forgives the shadow poet.  Great writing, Jer.

Love that!
