When are you gonna break through
When are you gonna slow down
Livin on society's hope dreams
You wanna keep messing around

You know I won't be here forever
I can't stay waiting on you
I can't take the worse before better
This ol boy's done singing the blues

Say goodbye to this fella you know
With a heart made of butterscotch gold
You can't keep me locked in your pearl house
Gonna open the shell and let go

(bridge)
Goin back to the hills of evergreen
to the shifting whispers I know
Can't deny my spirit's gonna cry
Beyond the love that arrested my soul
What'll you do when it comes to an end
I'll bet you don't even know
After your diamonds and twinkling friends
Someday you'll get wrinkled and old......

Maybe you'll find a new mark
There's plenty of us around
Love beggars lookin for true love
In the brambles of your bright gown.

Say goodbye to this fella you know
With a heart made of butterscotch gold
You can't keep me locked in your pearl house
Gonna open the shell and let go.

true love never looks after it's own interests

Thanks Jerry
We both have had some experience in hard luck blues and it's always good to let it out.
I appreciate it my friend.

Yes, when? we all ask at sometime in our life. Another great, heartfelt Blues song.
Enjoyed your words, Ethome.

A truly wonderful song that is filling my head, but I wish I could hear the tune.  I have one in my mind, but I want to sing it YOUR tune, Eric.  Wonderful writing.  This is what I have missed while I was taking time away.

Thank you Ms. E
I guess there's always some whens to figure out but we make changes sometimes because we have to not necessarily want to.
Many thanks for the read and the response.
