Pomp

They call it "Pomp and Circumstance"...
This foolish romp – this ill-seemed prance.
With eyes ablaze to higher call,
And shouts of praise to goad our fall.

Up the incline, with heartfelt yearn,
Stand we, in line – await our turn...
Each step, a slow paced agony
Our price of woe, to be set free...

As banners fly to honor class,
While strums, nearby, ariose brass.
But drums beat on, and tassels turned
Turn corporate dawn, and vassals burned...

Beyond the ridge of infamy,
Under the bridge, with a degree;
To stand, now homeless, by a pledge
In twilight's gloam, turned sacrilege.

This deviant society,
Our miscreant propriety,
Lives but to stomp on dreams of chance,
And turn our pomp to circumstance.

Poets are the last frontier to awareness, and this poem, and those like it, is the reason why, Michael. Very well written and deeply moving.

Absolutely!  Another good "Michael write".

That's enough truth to blow your hat off...

Great write!

Thank you all for the kind replies.  I want to apologize for my lack of interaction on the boards of late.  I don’t get to post much unless I use my cell phone… and I’m not exactly quick in the text input department.  Hopefully, the problem will be amended soon.

I was thinking of this as I watched my niece receive her diploma... about to burst with pride... and hope hope hoping circumstances are kind to her. *S*

So many dreams wither, remain unfulfilled or are ground under a heavy heel... and no one thinks it can happen to them. Exceptional write of a sad truth!!
